Ruda Community Consultation

Ruda Community Consultation Meeting – 27th January 2022

Venue: - Unison

Time: - 6pm

Overview of topics discussed

Current plans for the park

  • We would like to enhance the park by introducing a range of new experiences and activities.

  • The visuals on the boards displayed today show ideas we are experimenting with to upgrade the tiredness of the park.

  • We have planning permission to expand our swimming pool.

  • We would take the learnings that we’ve gained from similar investment projects across our other parks.

  • The service field will currently remain as is but its use will be up for regular review as we do with all land across the full Parkdean Resorts group.

Ongoing Communication

  • David Liebenberg, General Manager at Ruda will be the main point of contact for the community.

  • Holly Robertson, Beach Team Manager will also be a key contact for conservation related queries.

  • This is the first in what we hope will be a series of ongoing meetings to consult with the local community.

  • Please get in contact if you need any support with community projects.

Conservation and Community Work

  • Our Outdoor and Explore sessions give holidaymakers an insight into the environment.

  • We take groups of guests to the beach to explain how nurdles work. Plus information boards at reception.

  • Currently have regular meetings with conservation groups and we are getting involved with The Wave Project.

  • Two beach wheelchairs to be provided.

  • Discussions around an accessible changing room that we would maintain and provide power for. Plus access from the slipway down to the beach.

Surfer’s Paradise

  • Appreciate there is some concern amongst residents regarding security and behavioural issues during the summer when Surfer’s Paradise is open.

  • We were given an extension to our licence for the last two years, to 56 days. This has reverted to the usual 28 days for 2022.

  • Plans are in place for additional security measures and we expect a smaller volume of people this year now that more travel options are opening up post Covid restrictions.

Water System

  • Query raised about the resilience of the water system when additional water tankers were used from SWW and Wessex Water.

  • Ruda has a blend of water and the bore hole was working perfectly, however, the water pressure in the locality was reduced by South West Water last summer so we had to purchase water and tanker it in to keep up with demand.

Next Steps

  • If we decide in the future to explore the possibility of developing the service field or any other areas, we will commit to an enhanced consultation at an early stage to obtain the views of the community before making any firm decisions.

  • We have promised to match any amount up to £35,000 which CARA chooses to deploy for the benefit of the local community.

  • There are restrictions on what CARA can spend and do according to their mandate. We will be working in conjunction with CARA but we are also working independently on things such as the Croyde Bay Surfers Club. We are waiting for CARA to engage in further dialogue with us to discuss.
