Reduce, reuse, recycle: Ruda is making waves for a brighter tomorrow!

This half term, our Ruda Rangers held a community event to sort through the waste that had been left on Croyde beach and at Ruda’s campsite this year.

That included a staggering 200 bodyboards, and 150 tents! These items are extremely difficult, if not impossible to recycle.

With support from the team and volunteers, these bodyboards were stripped down to polystyrene so the Ocean Recovery Project could take them to be made into insulation blocks. Tent poles were also separated, and material cut up into ground sheets and easy to fold pieces, making them easier to be upcycled.

This was all possible by so many people turning up to help! This event not only brings new life to waste that would otherwise be sent to landfill, but it also shines a light on the need for action.

The images below show just a fraction of the larger problem. Remember, Ruda is just one park, on one beach, on one planet. Let’s do what we can to take better care of our planet!
